About the Artist

Nancy Lipe is currently enjoying pottery as her second career. Her
first career was in the field of engineering as a product manager for a
medical ultrasound company in Seattle, Washington. Born in Spokane
Washington, she moved to North Carolina in 2004 to start an early
retirement with her husband – an NC native.

She became interested in pottery shortly after moving into the state,
and took courses at Montgomery Community College, where she
obtained an Advanced Certificate in Professional Crafts: Clay. While
attending school, she was awarded a merit-based scholarship from
Fidelity Bank, and her work was displayed in the Star branch office.
While at MCC, Nancy was instrumental in developing the Pottery Club's
and MCC's first merit-only based scholarship.

Nancy is one of the founding members of the North Carolina
Professional Potters Guild – a group of regional artists who support
each other in advancing the art of pottery, a member of the Stanly
County Arts Guild and Carolina Clay matters.

In her own Words

"I don’t consider myself an artist.  I am a potter
who tries to infuse her work with an artistic
flavor.  I have not yet settled into one form or
style of work;  I like to try new things.  I do not
strive for production work; I’m not into sameness.
For me, pottery is a blend of thoughtful planning ,
scientific processes, some chaos, and being
focused in the present.  It speaks to the engineer
in me, the chef in me, and the artist in me."
